Electronic Gadgets, High-Tech Toilets, and Dancing Food

Our trip is made more enjoyable by all of the electronic gadgetry that we bring along. This includes laptops, iPhones, GPS units, and camera. The devices, together with connectors and power adapters, all fit into a foam-lined Tupperware container that we put together to hold and protect everything for the often-bumpy ride.

The GPS units are especially valuable to us. We design the route on our computers before leaving home, even selecting each individual road that we'll cycle along for the entire month-long trip, then transfer to the route the the GPS units that attach to our handlebars. As we bike along, the GPS tells us when to turn, so that we avoid getting lost and never have to stop to read a map.

This being Japan, even the toilets are high-tech. Many come with controls that allow you to heat the seat and spray your butt. They even let you choose what part of your anatomy at which to aim the spray, and you can set the temperature, pressure, and duration of the spray.
